2300 Degrees by Ivan Trevino

DescriptionWhen glassblowers get the temperature of glass up to 2300 degrees, it starts to get a little crazy. Ivan Trevino’s marimba duet 2300 Degrees was inspired by this dangerous art form, commissioned by Escape Ten (Annie Stevens and Andrea Venet) and premiered at PASIC 2016.Glass becomes semi-liquid at this temperature, allowing the glassblowers to manipulate it and form it to their will. If they touch the glass with bare skin it will cause severe burns, but if it cools off it becomes to hard to work. This constant state of tension is reflected in Ivan’s music.Both players weave rhythms and meters through each others’ parts, occasionally sharing instruments or playing marimba and crotales at the same time. While intense, this duet is still firmly planted in Ivan’s pop-meets-art music style.Players who love Ivan’s music but want something more challenging can look forward to working through 2300 Degrees
